This is all new, but I kept saying to myself that we needed a way to track what's going on in our garden. So many days, we see something new and say "we need to remember when this", but never do. A blog should be perfect. Easy for us. Easy for others to offer advice or even to get advice from our experience.
First a bit about us and our garden. We are a couple that love to be outside and love nature. I am Bruce and my husband is Tony. We live outside of Orlando, somewhat "in the country." On the border of 9A & 9B, but we're kind of in a cold pocket. We love to see the way nature works with the cycle of life, especially when it comes to plants. We love to find beautiful plants at Disney or any other attraction or garden, capturing some seeds and trying to get them to grow in our garden.
I grew up in North Central MD/South Central PA, near Gettysburg, just outside of the small town (1 traffic light) of Littlestown, PA. As a kid I hated it because we were really "out in the country" and I mean WAY out. We were 11 miles from town, 20 miles from the nearest double laned road or mall. When I lived there, we had no fast food or any national chains! My mom and step-dad owned 25 acres and we had a 3 acre vegetable garden to raise all of our own vegetables. We also raised our own beef, pork and sometimes chickens. To support the livestock, we did the small farm thing with hay fields and corn, too. Looking back, I truly appreciate those times & experiences now. I learned so much from those experiences even though we only garden trees, shrubs & flowers. Tony grew up in a tropical climate on the island of Puerto Rico. He also loved nature and while his family didn't grow their own vegetables, his dad love growing plants, shrubs, flowers and vines. The house where Tony grew up looks as if it's buried deep in the jungle, even though it's only a few feet from the road and just outside of the town of Cabo Rojo.
Long intro shortened: We love nature and plants!
This blog will be a daily accounting of what we plant and how things are progressing. If you should stumble across it, thanks for taking the time to read and if you should find the time to send us feed back, even more thanks to you! Good luck with your gardening!
